Beating the Odds

Billionaires’ First Jobs

Where does success begin? Last summer, Forbes published an article titled “Billionaires’ First Jobs.” It carries strong lessons for all coaches: It’s not where you begin, but where you finish; it’s what you do in your current circumstances that matters most; and success requires action.

Patrick McGovern, founder of International Data Group, lists what he learned as a paperboy.
“The key lesson that I learned was how to manage one’s time effectively. I learned to be proud of what you do and to strive for excellence in service. And I learned to remember that your job is to find customers and keep them happy,” he said.
Could there be a better blueprint for a coach?
Other titans mentioned in the article include Oprah Winfrey, Charles Schwab and Steve Jobs.
