How to Win

What Tomorrow Looks Like

You’ve heard that today is the most important day of your life.

Not only is today the only time when you can take action, it’s the best predictor of what you will be doing tomorrow.

Is that good news or bad news for you?

How many people light up a cigarette while saying, “I’ll quit tomorrow?”
How many dig into a piece of chocolate cake and announce, “I guess my diet starts tomorrow?”

Those promises rarely stick. If you’re spending today promising to mend your ways tomorrow, chances are that you will spend tomorrow doing exactly the same thing.

Years ago I coached an athlete whose favorite saying was: “Doing your best in this moment puts you in the best possible position to do your best in the next.”

So why wait for tomorrow?

Right now, you can decide to stop cutting corners.
Right now, you can decide to do only top-quality work.
Right now you can decide to act like a champion.

If you put off that decision until tomorrow, then your tomorrow likely will be a day of putting off what you must do.
