Conquering the Self

“Some people think that the battle is against others. Winners understand that the struggle is within the self.”

Let’s start with a trick question today.

Who was the first person to conquer Mount Everest?

You may be tempted to say Sir Edmund Hillary.

But remember, this is a trick question.

And here’s the answer: No one has conquered Mount Everest. It’s still there.

What many people have done with Mount Everest is conquer themselves. To reach the summit, they must confront and conquer things within. Things like fear. Lack of organization. Uncertainty.

The answer to competition truly lies within the self. Each competitor must ask, “How deep am I willing to go inside myself in order to find what’s necessary for the challenge?”
