Today’s Pep Talk: There’s Help All Around You

You may not know her by name, but you’ve likely seen actress Billie Burke in her most famous role. She played Glinda, the Good Witch from the North, in “The Wizard of Oz.”

One day Burke was on an ocean liner making a trans-Atlantic crossing, and noticed that the gentleman at the next table was suffering from a bad cold.

“Are you sick,” she inquired. He nodded.

“Go back to your stateroom,” she told the man helpfully. “Drink lots of orange juice and take two aspirins. Cover yourself with blankets to sweat out the cold. I know what I’m talking about. I’m Billie Burke from Hollywood.”

“Thank you,” the man said, introducing himself. “I’m Dr. Mayo from the Mayo Clinic.”

The moral of the story?

There’s help everywhere. There are resources all around you that you haven’t noticed yet. Someone is waiting — and wanting — to help. Maybe, like Burke, you haven’t noticed yet. But it’s there.
