Beating the Odds

Success Changes Everything

You’ve heard a batter on a hot streak say that the ball seemed as big as a basketball. Or a batter who’s in a slump sy that the ball looked smaller than a pea.

Turns out they’re right. A new study indicates that your success or failure at a skill actually changes the way you perceive objects.

This article, appearing in Wired Science and relayed by Dr. Carl McGown, explains.

I haven’t had time to read the entire article or to fully absorb it, but the imp;ications are enormous.

For instance, if success actually changes the way you view the world, then it’s no wonder that winners win and others don’t. It’s no wonder that different people hold different opinions on what is possible. Suddenly Henry Ford’s quote, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right in either case.”

Also, this science would help account for breakthroughs in practice. Success changes everything.
